International service provider TÜV SÜD has acquired the majority of SWISSI Process Safety, a company providing laboratory and consulting services. The acquisition complements the range of services supplied by TÜV SÜD to the pharmaceutical, chemicals and process industries. SWISSI Process Safety, previously under the sole ownership of SWISSI AG, employs 50 staff at two locations in Switzerland and Spain.

The market for services for the pharmaceuticals, chemicals and process industries is widely differentiated. European companies open additional branches abroad, while domestic production is increasingly moving over to highly complex processes. “This trend is changing the requirements imposed on service providers”, notes Dr. Hans-Nicolaus Rindfleisch, Head of Business Unit Chemical, Oil & Gas at TÜV SÜD. “Our customers demand a full-scale package of services supplied to the same high standard at all their global branches.”

SWISSI Process Safety has established a position as a premium provider of laboratory and consulting services to the process industry. The group comprises two companies domiciled in Switzerland and Spain that employ a total of 50 highly specialised staff. Offering laboratory services for determining material properties and reaction parameters and consulting services that focus on thermal process safety, explosion prevention and safety concerns related to the Seveso Directive, SWISSI Process Safety is a leading provider of such services in Europe and market leader in Switzerland. “We are delighted at the successful result of our negotiations and the extended cooperation with TÜV SÜD”, says Dr. Herbert Egolf, Chairman of the Board at SWISSI AG. “The high quality standards we have in common with TÜV SÜD, together with the company's international network, open up outstanding opportunities for development.”

Activities at the international TÜV SÜD Group's Business Unit Chemical, Oil & Gas focus on services to the chemical, process and oil and gas industries. The Business Unit developed from the in-house technical inspection units of major chemical companies. TÜV SÜD supports these globally operating companies with its expertise from decades of specialist experience and over 1,000 staff in a range of nationally based companies. “Our clients benefit from our ability to offer a full range of services at their location from a single source”, stresses Dr. Rindfleisch, adding that the acquisition of SWISSI Process Safety now enables TÜV SÜD to add process safety management to its service portfolio as a further complementary category.
