The efficient exchange of information in the process industries is becoming increasingly important, especially in large projects with hundreds or thousands of assets. Because of the long life cycles of typical process plants and the assets deployed therein, automated access to structured product documentation is key. This especially holds true for complex assets like process instruments.

This aspect is essentially a part of the digital twin of physical assets that needs to be standardised and harmonised across the equipment manufacturers and the owners and operators of process plants. This harmonisation will guarantee the interoperability between information exchange systems so that the desired efficiency gains can be realised.

Consortium of plant operators, technology suppliers and providers of technical services

To support a coordinated approach for the process industries for automatic identification of objects and the efficient exchange of object information, KROHNE has become a member of the Digital Data Chain Consortium (DDCC) to continue the activities that were set out from the DIN SPEC 91406 consortium.

The DDCC brings together plant operators, technology suppliers and providers of technical services. The aim is to connect at least three technologies for fast and simple exchange of information: Automatic identification of physical objects (DIN SPEC 91406), Digital manufacturer information (VDI 2770) and Digital information exchange platforms (IEP).

For the plant operator, this will yield reduced manual search effort due to standardized digital information, a significant reduction of the “paper trail” of objects, and the possibility to access and share information across all levels and distances.
