    GSR celebrates 40th anniversary

In 1971, Wilfried Niemann and Kurt Krüger founded a company called GSR, which is short for “Gesellschaft für Steuer- und Regeltechnik” at Bad Oeynhausen. The new company started to produce pilot-operated and direct acting valves.

The young company with only two employees soon became an expert in the field of sophisticated valves. The milestones of the company history include the manufacturing of “made-to-measure” customer-specific valves (since 1976), the relocation towards the current site at Vlotho-Exter (1978), the sale of the company to the Indus Holding AG (1999) and the reinforced focus on sophisticated high-tech valves for emerging markets (as of 2006).

Today, GSR sets 130 employees to work and holds a special position in the valve manufacturing business. Managing Director Dipl.-Geophys. Wolfgang Heil: “The customer sets forth his specifications, we develop the valve.” As the design engineers can rely on a modular basic programme, the individual desires and needs can be quickly and flexibly met: “Our construction database contains over 50,000 active articles and the production capacity ranges from batch size one to large-scale series production.”

The GSR range includes pilot-operated, force pilot-operated and direct acting solenoid valves, pressure-controlled valves and motor-driven valves, which are used, amongst others, in process engineering and energy technology, in food production and in the shipbuilding industry. GSR has comprehensive knowhow, amongst others, with regard to valves for high temperatures and high pressures.

Valves for alternative fuels are a current highlight of the development department. For natural gas filling stations, GSR offers a new valve range in cartridge technology and for the hydrogen infrastructure, a valve featuring a reliable switching behaviour even at 900 bar was developed.

In the past two years, GSR has opened up a brand-new business segment with the “Rapid Reaction Valves” (RRV). This valve, which was originally developed for the aerospace technology, enables a very fast and accurately adjustable switching behaviour, thus providing for highly accurate dosing processes in the most diverse applications, e.g. to set-up quickly reacting electro-hydraulic control circuits, for dosing ingredients in the pharmaceutical industry and for dosing gasses in low-pressure fuel cells.
