The Flow-Cel module is a cassette system for the ultrafiltration of highly viscous media like cream cheese. It is suited for the filtration demands of the chemical, biotech and food industry. With each cassette having a membrane area of 10m2 and a 10kDa molecular weight cut-off, the module is optimally designed to filter protein-containing liquids with high solids content. The innovation of this system is the ability to clean it by backwashing from the permeate side. This increases the cleaning effectiveness and saves chemicals, time, and manpower. The device is not only for food processes, but all protein-concentration applications with a high amount of solids such as biotech fermentation processes. To guarantee easy handling and operation, the unit has been developed and tested together with operators in the food industry. The modular design with different size feed spacers available allows the system to be modified based on the particular needs of each operator.
