Ethernet-APL refers to Ethernet over twisted-pair cable and is suitable for process automation field instruments. It paves the way for the digital transformation of instrumentation in hazardous areas of all zones or divisions and can serve as a common infrastructure for transmitting process and safety signals. In this newsletter, four collaboration partners will introduce four different aspects of Ethernet in terms of the field and safety; from the application (BASF), installation (Pepperl+Fuchs) and instrument manageability (Endress+Hauser), to safety control (HIMA). Concepts and the rational for safety signals via Ethernet can be found in a white paper written by experts at the four collaboration partners.
